Xiuping: DHR’s Finance & HR Guru and Unintentional Comedian

Beyond the Spreadsheet: The unseen humor in HR and finance roles.

As a supervisor, I’ve met all sorts of characters, but Xiuping, our Finance Assistant and HR Manager, is a rare gem—a data-driven dynamo with a knack for unintentional comedy. She tackles DHR’s financial and HR challenges with surgical precision and the bluntness of a stand-up comic. And yes, I’m cheering for her well-deserved raise—she’s earned it.

The Money Maestro

Xiuping’s motto? “Only got time for money and good company.” She cuts through nonsense like a hot knife, asking, “Do I get money for this?” or “I’m glad DOF is happy with us... do we get a bonus for that?” Praise is nice, but she’d prefer it in her paycheck. I’m right there with her, marveling at her stellar work.

Her hustle extends beyond the office. “Maybe I’ll buy lotto this weekend too,” she quips, ever chasing the dream. Her confidence is electric: “I will always ask for more money, because I know I’m up for a challenge and able to do more. I see value in myself.” Yet, she left banking for lack of fulfillment. My goal? Help her find that spark at DHR.

Navigating the Office Circus

Xiuping thrives in chaos but craves clarity: “I don’t mind doing more, I need to know what my expectations are and what I can say or can’t say to folks, especially since I’m at the bottom of the pay grade.” Her frustration is relatable: “This man!!! Does he want me to do HR stuff or no?” I’m wondering too when priorities shift like a bad plot twist.

She’s a policy hawk, especially on teleworking: “That will be my initiative to ensure we follow telework policy and notice how it’s tied to parking spaces and suggest changes.” And yes, she’s the unsung hero of parking: “Honestly, idk what I have done today aside from trying to find us a parking space.” She almost stirred up trouble too: “I ALMOST stir up some hidden dirt earlier hahaha.” I’m intrigued and slightly terrified.

Team Player with a Side of Snark

Xiuping keeps the team in mind: “Maybe they do need extra help.” She’s practical about collaboration: “I think it’s important for a team to meet in person at least once a week or bi-weekly.” For morale? “I did say we provide moral support...” It’s not a bonus, but it’s something. Her human side shines: “Ngl, allergies is killing me today, I might not have a functional nose later, super itchy, and ears too.”

She’s candid about growth: “I was gonna say... don’t be counting on me 100%, idk what I’m doing!!” and “My decade of therapy is paying off hahaha.” Still searching for her calling—“I haven’t found my talent as of yet... lol”—she’s got my support. Her purpose? “Part of my dream job is actually helping/giving back to the community, which working for the county is, in a way.” Add fair compensation for her and her son, and that’s the dream.

The Lovable Guru

Xiuping’s a powerhouse—sharp, driven, and, as she insists, “I’m lovable.” Absolutely. My goal? Support her growth and well-being. So, bring her tea—or better, a bonus check. It’s “no money, no talk”—unless you’ve got good company, a learning opportunity, a parking spot, or a community cause. Beneath the bluntness is a gem I’m proud to have at DHR. As she says, “We came, we saw, we wondered...”
