My Shadow Has Four Legs and Sheds (A Lot): Life with Sansa, the Yellow Lab "Tail"

Our sweet and energetic yellow Lab mix, Sansa – the best shadow a person could ask for!

Sansa, My Constant Companion

Having Sansa is like having a furry little shadow that follows me everywhere. This yellow Lab mix is truly my "tail" – wherever I go, she's right there.

Most dogs greet you with a happy tail wag, but Sansa acts like even a quick trip to the mailbox is an eternity. She's glued to the window the moment I step out! And when I return, it's not just a tail wag; her entire body wiggles in a joyful celebration that could light up the street. You can only imagine the enthusiastic greeting after a longer absence!

No Privacy, No Problem

Forget about moving around the house alone! If I get up for a drink, she's suddenly glued to my heels, as if a trip to the kitchen is a grand adventure. Bathroom breaks? No privacy there. She just sits outside the door, sometimes letting out a sad sigh as if I've abandoned her to the scary living room.

Working from home is interesting with my furry supervisor. While I'm trying to work on my computer, she just stares at me. Really stares. It's like she's analyzing my every move with those big, brown eyes, probably thinking, "Seriously? Still looking at that screen? There has to be something better to do, like sniffing the same patch of grass for ages!"

Even watching TV is a group activity, of sorts. I'll be watching something funny, and I can just feel her watching me. I'll whisper, "Yeah, Sansa, that was a crazy plot twist. Now, could you maybe watch the show instead of my eyelids?" She usually just sighs happily and nudges my arm with her wet nose, just to remind me she's there.

The Snack Detective

Sometimes I try to sneak into the kitchen for a snack. Nope. Doesn't work. She's like a silent, yellow blur, suddenly appearing with ears perked and nose twitching, as if she has a built-in cookie detector.

She even sleeps practically touching my foot, and the second I move, she's right there, anticipating my next move.

Don't get me wrong, I love Sansa. Her attachment is actually quite sweet, even if it's a little much sometimes. And it's nice having a warm, furry buddy leaning on me on the couch. But sometimes I just wish I could move around the house without my every step being followed by a happy, slobbery dog.

Maybe one day Sansa will enjoy napping alone or chasing squirrels without my involvement. But until then, I guess I just live with my furry shadow and accept that personal space is a joke. At least everything has a little extra yellow Lab love, right? Maybe I should start charging her rent for her VIP spot next to me while I work. A girl can dream!

  1. This is equal parts adorable and hilarious—Sansa sounds like the ultimate Velcro pup! Who needs personal space when you’ve got that much unconditional love (and drool)?
